About:Justin Lim’s creative work on large-scale, mixed-use projects respects the authentic culture and unique environmental characteristics of every site. His work includes urban designs and master plans focused on the human experience with a preference for the complex challenges of urban redevelopment, for connecting the past with the future, and walkable urban districts within a civic infrastructure of public open spaces. His wide range of urban design projects in North America, Asia, Australia and Latin America includes campus master plans for universities, hospitals, and as well as social/affordable housing neighborhoods.
He holds his Bachelor of Architecture with a concentration in Regional Urban Planning from the Illinois Institute of technology (IIT) in 2010. His design work is influenced by his education at IIT but his vision and design approach are deeply rooted in his broad experience at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP, which he first joined in 2008. He was named a Senior Urban Designer of the Chicago office in 2012.
In 2016, Justin left SOM to pursue his Master of Science in Architectural Studies (SMArchS) in Architecture and Urbanism (AU) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT, he was Norman and Muriel Leventhal Graduate Fellow at the Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU), where his primary research focused on social and affordable housing projects in Latin America -- Brazil, Guyana, and Colombia. The work was widely published and exhibited at LCAU’s biennial conference, titled “HOUSE+” in 2018.
Justin is currently an urban designer at SOM. He has also founded Limcity LLC, an urban design consultant firm based in Ann Arbor, MI.
